Could former Pacers GM David Kahn wind up being the next GM of the Minnesota Timberwolves? |
David Kahn, who was part of the front office of the Indiana Pacers for nearly nine years, and has owned as many as four NBA D-League franchises is being considered for the position of general manager with the Minnesota Timberwolves. Kahn has taken part in several rounds of interviews, as have the other candidates who include Spurs assistant general manager Dennis Lindsey, and internal candidates, General manager Jim Stack and assistant GM Fred Hoiberg. During Kahn’s time with the Pacers he held the positions of General Manager for four seasons, Assistant to the President for one season and Vice President and Assistant General Manager for two years. From 1998-2002 he oversaw both the business and basketball sides of the organization; represented the Pacers on the NBA's Competition Committee; and managed a staff of over 120 when the team moved into Conseco Fieldhouse in 1999. More recently, Kahn has been involved in NBA D-League ownership. Kahn, an NBA insider, said that he got involved “through the persistence and encouragement of David Stern, who on two separate occasions approached me about becoming involved. On the second occasion, I began to think this had potential upside, because of David's personal interest in it.” Kahn has since sold the D-League teams. The announcement of the GM selection for the Timberwolves could come as early as mid-week. (Read The Biz of Basketball interview with David Kahn)
